Frequently asked questions

What is a Pedal Tour?

Our pedal tours are conducted on a 14 passenger bicycle. You can book the entire bike and bring yourself plus up to 13 friends, or you can book individual seats. Each passenger needs to print and sign a Liability Waiver, and bring it with them to the tour. Then just climb on for a party while you tour the best craft beer taprooms and breweries in the Bay Area! The best part is, we drive, so all you have to do is pedal as we move along at approximately 5 mph. Watch our intro video here:

Where does the tour start and end?

All public mixer tours pickup and drop off at Independent Brewing Company, at 444 Harrison St, Oakland, CA 94607. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for your tour to check in, or arrive even earlier and have a pint with them before and after your tour! And don't forget your Waiver!

Do you do custom tours?

If you have an idea for a custom tour, whether it be for a corporate event, bachelor(ette) party, progressive dinner, food tour, family gathering, wedding, etc, just contact us. We'd love to be part of any event you have in mind. Even if they are outside of Oakland, contact us and we can discuss how to make it happen.

Who can ride?

For our drinking tours, only passengers 21 and older are allowed. All of our stops will check your ID and you will not be allowed in unless you are 21 or older.

How long is each tour?

The standard tour is about 2 hours, but may run a little longer depending on the circumstances. Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in for the bike. Three hour tours are also available. Custom tours of any length can be booked by contacting us.

Is drinking and eating allowed on the bike?

Alcohol is not allowed on board. However, feel free to bring along any non-alcoholic beverages, as long as they are not in glass containers. Also feel free to bring any snacks on the bike, but be mindful that some snacks are difficult to eat while riding. We provide bottled water and pretzels. Littering is unacceptable. If you drop food wrappers or other litter, please let us know so that we can stop the bike to pick it up.

Can I bring jackets and personal items on the bike?

Jackets and other personal items can be stored on the bike while you go inside at each stop. We have storage for these items.

Can I play my music on the bike?

The bike is equipped with a sound system. Please do bring music on your phone and we will plug it in. Otherwise we will play our playlist, which consists exclusively of popular banjo tunes of the 1920s.

Are seatbelts and helmets required?

All seats are equipped with a seatbelt and backrest. Seatbelts and helmets are recommended but not required. If you wish to wear a helmet, please bring one with you.

Any special rules?

Inappropriate behaviour is not allowed. It will result in an immediate end to your tour, and fee of $200, and no refund will be given for the time lost in your tour. Examples of inappropriate behaviour include: rude or vulgar shouting at passersby, vomiting on the bike, excessive intoxication deemed a danger to yourself or others. Basically, if it would get you kicked out of a brewery or bar, it is inappropriate.

What should I wear on the bike?

Oakland has a generally pleasant climate all year. However, nights can get cool. Keep in mind that you will be outdoors while pedaling between stops and bring a jacket or pants if desired. You should wear shoes that you would be comfortable wearing on a bike while pedaling, so stilettos probably won't work.

What is your refund policy?

If you cancel a booking more than 7 days (7 times 24 hours) in advance, you get a full refund. Between 48 hours and 5 days before your tour begins, you get a 50% refund. Within 48 hours of the tour, we cannot give a refund.

What about rain or other poor conditions?

We monitor weather leading up to your tour. If there is a high chance of rain forecast for your tour, we will contact you in the days leading up to the tour to give you a heads up. Closer to the tour, if the forecast hasn't improved and the forecast is for a high chance of heavy rain, we will give you the option of a reschedule, full refund, or be a tough bunch and ride anyway. If the forecast is for a low chance of light showers, we will ride on. Some recent years have seen some summer days with smoke from wildfires North of the Bay Area. For smoke forecast above 150ppm (labeled unhealthy by the EPA), the same policy applies as a forecast for heavy rain: you will be given the option of a reschedule, refund, or ride anyway.

Can I book same-day tours?

Due to the fact that we must schedule our drivers in advance, we generally do not allow same-day bookings. The only exception would be if we happen to have a partially filled mixer tour, we can add additional riders to those tours if you call ahead to check on availability.

How many people is the minimum?

We need at minimum of 6 riders total to move the bike. It is heavy and no fun to ride with too few people. Tours with fewer than 6 people scheduled will be contacted to cancel the tour (and a refund given), or the option given to join another partially filled group, if available.

Where do I find the waiver?

- When you book, a copy of the waiver will be included in the booking email - On our homepage, click waiver at the top to download or print a copy of the waiver
